LÖVE is an open-source 2D game engine which uses the versatile Lua scripting language to create dynamic gaming experiences. It relies on OpenGL graphics and the SDL interface library to allow for cross-platform implementation and is an all-encompassing gaming environment for the development and enjoyment of 2D games.

Attention! This project is constantly evolving and changes come and go, sometimes initiated by us and sometimes by the recommendations of others. If you have an idea on how to make the game engine better, it is greatly desired that you contact us and let us know what you think. A few hundred heads are better than two!

LÖVE 0.3.1 released
This release fixes some horrible bugs present in the previous version. Everyone should upgrade at once! Full list of fixes available at the forum.

LÖVE 0.2.1 released
Release highlights:
  • Added numerous love.filesystem-features.
  • Added features and improvements to ImageFont
  • Added image optimization and padding functions.
  • Added functions for drawing a section of an Image.
  • Plus other minor features and bug fixes.

Many things have changed, so 0.2.0-games will not work without modification (we warned you this would happen). Check out the forum for more details.

LÖVE 0.2.0 released
Yes! Victory! LÖVE 0.2.0 has been released. Release highlights:
  • Added ImageFont
  • Added text formatting functions
  • Added embedded default font
  • Added more sprite drawing functions
  • Added Animation
  • Added color/blending modes

Please take note of a small (but important) syntax change: the main render callback has been renamed to "draw" to better conform with the rest of the function names in LÖVE.

LÖVE 0.1.1a ... released?
First public release of LÖVE. Check out download area. As of yet, only the basic features are available, such as imaging, audio, fonts, input, timing, etc. For the full interface, check out the documentation.

Wait for it...
The release of LÖVE has been postponed! Now who didn't see that coming? Rude did a major overhaul of the entire system so now a lot of things work better and other things don't work at all. We also added a lot of other features to the 0.x task list, so we're going to try to have a more concise system created before we eventually release. Looking towards a winter release, but time will tell (insert Duke Nukem Forever joke here)...

Website Created
The website has been created in accordance with the planned public release of LÖVE. We are still working on updating all of the website content, so it will look a little bleak and barren for the time being.
